In June 2008 Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis decided to team up. Since then, they are the first National team crew to have participated in many competitions all over the world. Their private trainer is Thanassis Pahoumas, ex-champion in the 470 and 49er categories. The crew currently hold 1st place in Greek ranking and 3rd place in the World Cup. They aim to reach Rio 2016 Olympic Games, after returning from England with a medal.
Panagiotis Mantis:
Panagiotis entered the Sailing world at the young age of 8 in the Optimist category at Tzitzifies Kallithea Sailing Group (N.O.T.K). In the “little giants” category, he managed to win several medals in many sailing club competitions. In 1994, he transferred to the Piraeus Sailing Group (Ι.Ο.Π). After the Optimist category, he was actively involved in the 420 category where he became a Greek Champion. In 2001 he started sailing in the 470 Olympic category, This was the start of an amazing career in sailing, with the Gold Medal in the World Championship in Istanbul in men’s category.The following year, in 2002, he won the World Championship again! From 2003 onwards he has participated in all international competitions and events and he is considered as one of the most talented and experienced yachtsmen of 470 category.Now a member of the National and Pre-Olympic team.
Pavlos Kagialis:
Pavlos entered the Sailing world at the age of 7, in the Optimist Category of his Sailing Club PortoKarra (N.O.O.K). He quickly developed a talent, allowing him to join “children” the national team at the age of 12. He naturally progressed to sailing in both 420 and 470 categories at Thessaloniki Sailing Club. Competing in national championships one after and participating in every category. After becoming a member of the National Team in many categories, and having a 3rd European Victory in the 470 Young Mens category. In 2003 he moved to Athens for more intense training conditions. Today, he is an athlete of the Sailing Group of Vouliagmeni’s habitants (Ν.Ο.Κ.Β)
